The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
